Organized in 1865, the congregation met in homes until the original church was built in 1866. The present chapel was erected in 1895 as a parish hall. Today's Gothic church structure, built in 1899, has the rose limestone of the original building in its foundation. St. Paul's, Englewood, is a large and diverse family of people. We come from various economic and social backgrounds. We are African-Americans, Asian-Americans, Euro-Americans, and Native-Americans. This diversity is a reality, and we are proud of being a healthy family that is able not only to tolerate diversity but also to celebrate it openly. Our diversity is a strength only because of our unity as a people of faith. With the breaking and receiving of the bread in our Eucharistic meal during worship, our large and diverse family becomes one in Christ. In the midst of our diversity we see and know a loving God. As we sing from our hymnal in church, "Be known to us Lord Jesus, in the breaking of the bread."

Lord, make me an instrument of thy peace. Where there is hatred, let me sow love; Where there is injury, pardon; Where there is doubt, faith; Where there is despair, hope; Where there is sadness, joy. O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console; to be understood as to understand; to be loved as to love. For it is in giving that we receive, it is in pardoning that we are pardoned, and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
